Do You Need Sedation Dentistry?

How do you feel about visiting the dentist? Estimates show that between 8{dcbe0cd52ce35e2f156887e14605e24111ce99c14f01d3853732956d43020bdd} and 15{dcbe0cd52ce35e2f156887e14605e24111ce99c14f01d3853732956d43020bdd} actively avoid seeking dental care due to anxiety. For those who fear visiting the dentist, they run the risk of developing serious oral health complications. We understand that your fears are real and take steps to ensure patients feel calm and relaxed, including the use or dental sedatives. Do you need sedation dentistry?

What is Sedation Dentistry?

Sedation dentistry involves the use of medication to help someone enter a relaxed state prior to a dental procedure. There are a variety of options for calming patients, including nitrous oxide (also known as laughing gas), oral sedation, and IV sedation. Each type is designed to address patients of varying levels of anxiety.

What Does My Waco TX Dentist Offer?

We offer the oral option for our patients. Shortly before the procedure begins, the patient will take one to two pills. This offers a stronger level of calming when compared to nitrous oxide. If you have any questions or concerns about our calming solution, please don’t hesitate to contact our office. We want patients to feel comfortable during each stage of treatment.

Who Qualifies?

We recommend this option for those with anxiety or overactive gag relaxes, both of which make undergoing even routine procedures difficult. To see if this will work for you, we will look at your medical history and take into account your current health. If you qualify for sedation, we will recommend avoiding food and liquids in the six to eight hours before the procedure. You may be a little groggy afterward, so you will need to arrange for a friend or family member to bring you home. We will provide this person with detailed aftercare instructions to give you later. Please do not drive or operate machinery until the affects wear off.
