Answers:

1. A. Periodontal disease is the leading cause of tooth loss in American adults. Poor oral health causes bacteria to inflame your gum tissue and deteriorate the underlying bone. However, osteoporosis also deteriorates your bone tissue and weakens your bones so they fracture easily and cannot support your teeth. In fact, studies show that women with osteoporosis are 86 percent more likely to develop periodontal disease and three times more likely to lose teeth.

2. B. Calcium helps keep your bones strong and healthy. When you don’t consume enough calcium, your body will leech the mineral from your teeth and bones, which thins and weakens your support. Vitamin D is also useful because it helps your body absorb calcium and fight infections.

3. B. Post-menopausal women are at an increased risk of osteoporosis due to their decline in estrogen.

4. C. Studies show that people with osteoporosis often need denture re-adjustments because the supportive bony ridges can change over time. Fortunately, dental implants are comfortable and secure. Dental implants are placed in your jawbone and help stimulate your jaw tissue. They also restore full function and aesthetic appeal to your smile.
