Will Invisalign Fix My Smile?

added on: October 6, 2015

An uneven smile not only contains poor esthetics, but can be a source of oral health problems, increasing the risk of cavities, gum disease, and even issues with the jaw joints, such as TMD or bruxism (teeth grinding). However, we offer a practically invisible solution for misalignment with Invisalign. Will Invisalign fix your smile?

Frequently Asked Questions About Invisalign

Question: Can anyone receive Invisalign?

Answer: We take a number of factors into account when prescribing clear braces. First, patients should be over the age of 16. In addition, the misalignment should be minor. Serious malocclusion may require traditional braces to address. Otherwise, you may be a viable candidate for clear aligners. We will examine your smile and discuss your goals to decide the best way to proceed with treating your uneven smile.

Question: How do clear braces work?

Answer: Typically, braces use tension by adjusting an arch wire, moving the teeth to different positions. With Invisalign, the patient wears clear plastic aligners. Custom-made for the patient, the aligners shift the teeth in a shorter period, often with less discomfort.

Question: How often do I wear the aligners?

Answer: You will need to wear them everyday without exception. They need to be worn around 20-23 hours daily for optimal results. About every two weeks you will upgrade to a new aligner, with treatment taking about a year for adults and around 18 months for teens. However, you can remove them prior to eating or before brushing/flossing your teeth.

Question: What are the benefits?

Answer: First, the aligners are barely noticeable and are worn for a shorter time than metal braces. Many patients consider the aligners more comfortable. You will require fewer office visits. The removable factor means you don’t need to change how you eat. With braces, you would need to avoid hard or sticky foods. This factor also means an easier time thoroughly brushing and flossing. This may seem minor but proper brushing and flossing can improve oral health and help you avoid cavities, gum disease, and help decrease the appearance of teeth stains.
