Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique

Dr. Corbet Locke is one of the few dentists in the country and the only dentist in Waco/Woodway, TX who can perform the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique. This technique was developed by John Chao, DDS, MADG as a way to correct receding gums scalpel free with a significantly less painful healing process compared to traditional gum grafting. This procedure corrects and hides receding gums for a better appearance and overall dental health. Corbet Locke DDS in Woodway is happy to offer this procedure to patients who are looking to improve their gums and oral health.

Who is a Candidate for the Chao Pinhole Surgical Technique?

Patients who have receding gums from either age, abrasive brushing habits, or as a result of periodontal diseases such as gingivitis, periodontitis, or advanced periodontitis. If your receded gums are left untreated, it can lead to many health problems and create an unsightly appearance. Symptoms of receding gums include: tooth sensitivity, exposed root surfaces, redness and swelling, teeth appearing longer than normal, spaces between teeth, and food packing. Receding gums can lead to tooth loss, tooth decay, and gum disease. Gum disease has also been found to be linked to heart disease. It is important to have it treated as soon as possible.

The Procedure

Instead of using a scalpel and stitches to correct receding gum tissue, the Chao Pinhole technique uses a small needle to create a hole. Dr. Locke will use special designed instruments to loosen the gum tissue and then uses the instruments to push the gums down over the receding area. No stitches, grafts or incisions are needed to complete this procedure.

The Benefits of the Chao Pinhole Technique VS Traditional Gum Grafting

Traditional gum grafting requires either donor gum tissue, or soft gum tissue grafts. That gum tissue is then used to rebuild the gum line. This procedure uses scalpels, stitches, and is known to be quite painful.

The Chao Pinhole technique is non invasive with the exception of the use of a needle. Patients have found this procedure to be less painful and more comfortable than the traditional way. The healing process is also better with the Chao Pinhole Technique. The results are instantly seen, while with the traditional method, healing is required for the results to be seen. The results are long lasting and completely natural looking.
