Summer has arrived! Will you and your friends or family be taking a fun vacation or hitting the beach? If so, you probably want to look your best and that includes your smile. If you have teeth stains you can brighten your smile with teeth whitening. Find out what options are available for removing discoloration and improving the beauty of your teeth.
What Causes Teeth Stains?
Why do our teeth become discolored? There are actually a number of possibly causes of teeth stains, including:
- Foods high in sugar
- Drinks with dark pigments
- Poor oral hygiene
- Smoking and tobacco use
- Trauma to the tooth
- The use of medications such as tetracycline
With Zoom! we can actually remove discoloration in under an hour. The process begins with a protective covering being placed onto your lips and gums. We then add a bleaching gel to the teeth. The gel will be activated with a special curing light. Many people who receive the Zoom! system enjoy a smile brightened by around eight to ten shades.
The Sinsational system actually works much like the Zoom! Whitening. However, the procedure is designed to reduce sensitivity in the teeth. We often offer this option as part of our routine cleanings and checkups. Less intensive, patients can still have their smiles brightened by around two to three shades.
At-Home Teeth Whitening
If you want the convenience of removing stains from your home but with professional level results, we offer an at-home system. First, we take impressions of your teeth in order to create a custom-made set of whitening trays. Then we prescribe a powerful bleaching gel. Each day you will fill the trays with gel and wear them for the amount of time specified by the doctor. Optimal results typically take between a week and ten days.
