As a part of our approach to cosmetic dentistry the doctor may offer various teeth whitening treatments to remove stains and brighten your smile.
Frequently Asked Questions About Cosmetic Dentistry
Question: Why do our teeth become stained?
Answer: There are actually a wide array of issues that can lead to discolored teeth, including age, injury to a tooth, smoking, or consuming drinks that have dark pigments, such as tea, red wine, soda, and coffee. Before we suggest a treatment option to brighten your smile we will need to identify the factors behind your stained teeth.
Question: How does the doctor remove discoloration?
Answer: We offer three teeth whitening options. Zoom! and Sinsational Smile are office-based procedures that use a bleaching gel and curing light to brighten your smile in one sitting. We also offer an at-home option. The patient wears a whitening tray filled with a bleaching gel daily for a set amount of time. Results take between a week and ten days.
Question: How do I help my teeth stay brighter for longer?
Answer: After treatment you can cut back on drinks with dark pigments, avoiding smoking, and brush and floss your teeth daily. We also recommend having the dentist thoroughly clean your teeth at least once every six months to help brighten your smile.
Question: What if my stains don’t respond to traditional whitening methods?
Answer: Some stains are permanent, such as those that develop following the use of certain medications, over exposure to fluoride, or injury. For these, we simply mask them with a lifelike restoration known as a porcelain veneer. If you have any questions about our cosmetic approach to removing teeth stains contact our office today.
